Western Shugden Society Aims
To Regain Religious Freedom
Dorje Shugden practice involves making prayers and requests to Buddha Dorje Shugden, who is a manifestation of the Wisdom Buddha Je Tsongkhapa. Dorje Shugden is one of hundreds of protecting deities within the Buddhist religion. Practitioners request his help to develop and sustain love, compassion and wisdom in their hearts and throughout the world. Prayers to Dorje Shugden have been made for over 400 years by many of the most esteemed Buddhist teachers, including the Dalai Lama’s own teachers.
Following political motivations and his own non-Buddhist superstitions, the Dalai Lama has rejected this particular practice and chosen to rely upon another protector – now he is attempting illegally to force all other Buddhists to do the same.
(Note: It is not correct that the Dalai Lama is the head, or “Pope of Buddhism” with any spiritual authority to ban Shugden practice – he is not even the head of Tibetan Buddhism.)
