Dalai Lama’s stance on non-violence

Dalai Lama – Trouble in Shangri-la
In 1996, an angry mob of pro Dalai Lama Tibetans came to a monastery in southern India within the Tibetan exile community. They surrounded hundreds of monks who had gathered peacefully to protest the Dalai Lama’s ban on the mainstream Buddhist practice of Wisdom Buddha Dorje Shugden.
The angry mob, including pro Dalai Lama monks, attacked the protesters with stones and bricks. 60 Dorje Shugden practitioners ended up in hospital with serious injuries. The Dalai Lama talks a lot about peace, love, and resolving problems non-violently. Hypocritical? You decide:
In the Dalai Lama’s own words:
“There will be no change in my stand.
I will never revoke the ban…
It will be like the Cultural Revolution.
If those who do not accept the ban do not
listen to my words, the situation will
grow worse for them. You sit and watch.
It will only grow worse for them.”
Talk to monks at Trijang Labrang,
January, 1999.
